Why Bathroom Ventilation Matters More Than Your Tile Choice

Proper exhaust and waterproofing protect your investment long after the reveal photos are taken.

Clients understandably focus on tile patterns, shower hardware, and vanity style. Those choices are visible on day one. Ventilation and moisture control are invisible — until they are not.

What good exhaust actually does

A properly sized fan removes humid air at the source and runs long enough to clear moisture from grout lines, drywall, and framing cavities. We specify run times and duct paths during planning, not as an afterthought at trim-out.

  1. Confirm fan CFM matches room volume
  2. Route duct to exterior — never into attic space
  3. Use a timer or humidity sensor for post-shower run time
  4. Coordinate fan location with shower enclosure height

Even premium tile needs a dry environment behind the surface.

Replacing mold-damaged substrate costs far more than upgrading ventilation during the original remodel.

Waterproofing is a system, not a product

Sheet membranes, liquid-applied barriers, and prefabricated pans each have a place. The right approach depends on shower size, drain type, and how the enclosure meets surrounding finishes. We document the assembly so future maintenance is straightforward.
